The Women's Mural Documentation Project is a community engagement arts project that documents the lifespan and significance of The Women’s Mural:  From Bomboniere to Barbed Wire. Artists, Megan Evans and Eve Glenn, who created the mural in 1986 have worked with Danielle Hakim and Sally Northfield to collate documentation surrounding the development of the original mural, the women depicted, its history over the last 30 years, the commentary and interactions on the site after its defacement in 2016 and now through to the creation of a digital iteration of the mural – Re-imagining the Women’s Mural: A Virtual Tour.

The Women’s Mural: From Bomboniere to Barbed Wire represents a significant example of Melbourne’s world famous collection of street art. Its defacement in February 2016 caused an overwhelming outpour of community opinion –and the community responded by engaging in a discussion about the role and meaning of this important mural and assisted us with the documentation of its contribution to the Australian cultural landscape.
